The Program

Gemmell and Smith present “March Madness –  masterpieces from the maelstrom of genius”. From Tartini’s legendary and insanely virtuosic Devil’s Trill Sonata, born of the composer’s feverish dream, to the depths of Schumann’s hallucinatory mind in his Second Sonata for Violin and Piano; from the suicidal struggle of an increasingly deaf Beethoven in his Fourth Sonata for Violin and Piano, to a grieving Poulenc’s anguish in his heart-rending Sonata for Violin and Piano, Gemmell & Smith will draw you into the maelstrom of creative genius as they dive headlong into the madness, the frenetic energy and the creative spark that inspired these monumental works for violin and piano!
